Henri Cartier-Bresson At The MOMA

Today my friend and creative partner in life (that doesn’t sound right), Sagar, and I jettisoned up to the MOMA to check out the Bresson exhibit. We’ve been trying for a good few weeks and finally our schedules allowed. Bresson has been one of my favorite photographers ever since I was a young lad and one of the artists who really inspired me to take hold of a camera and snap madly away at anything. (I’ve since calmed down).

Needless to say, the exhibit was fantastic and covered Bresson’s entire career and shots from all over the world. My personal favorites have always been his early photos from the 30s, showcasing life in Paris, when he started to emerge as what he would eventually be referred to as, ‘The Father of Modern Photojournalism’, and which also were the most humorous. The above photo is probably my favorite, love the look on the kid’s face. I first saw the photo hanging in a bread shop in Paris and have loved it since. Other stand outs include shots from Ahmadabad, India, wrestlers in Mongolia, portraits of Existentialists, life of gypsies in Spain and Mexico, and many French countryside compositions that 60 years before would’ve been Impressionist paintings. I definitely recommend checking out the exhibit, up until June 28th.
