What Am I Supposed To Say When I’m All Choked Up And You’re Ok?

I really like this song, ‘Breakeven’, that my sister Nadia told me about. It delicately balances itself on a line between an unoriginal, modern-rock pop song and slightly edgy acoustic guitar rock. Ok, well, honestly it’s not that good, but I just can’t stop listening to it. It’s by Irish based band The Script, who have been on the scene for a while but recently released their self titled debut and this is the third single.

What I like most about the song are the lyrics. Not deep with hidden layers at all, but somtimes simplicity says what you need it to. It describes a relationship that has ended, where one party has easily moved on while the other is still suffering. I believe that is something that we can all relate to, or I can attest to at least, hopefully you can’t. But I think the lyrics hit home with lines like “I’m still alive but I’m barely breathing”, cheesy, right? But it works. Or “What am I supposed to say when I’m all choked up and you’re ok?”, “You got his heart and my heart and none of the pain”, “While I’m wide awake she has no trouble sleeping” and the main point of the song “When a heart breaks, no, it don’t break even”. So true.
