Rogerseventytwo (yes, with no spaces) has been putting out some opulent remixes. I have to say, I love this guy. He hails from The Netherlands and his inspiration comes from early French House music (which, by now I’m sure you can tell is one of my favorite genres) recalling Daft Punk and Cassius. His influence runs deep, effortlessy combining sounds from the seventies, disco, electro, house, for really lush sounds you feel like you can grab onto.
He does a kick ass remix of The Jackson 5’s classic ‘I Want You Back’, one of my all time favorite songs (probably everyone’s for that matter). His take on this is completely skewed in the other direction of the original, which is the right way to go when taking on such a beloved song. He keeps Michael’s vocals completely in check (though slightly echoed) but transforms and layers the track with funk filled bass lines and house beats. It brings out a stadium, anthem feel to the song. ‘Imagination’, Rogerseventytwo’s own track is deep and mechanical, kind of like if the Decepticons were to make music and his ‘Paramount’ mix takes about a minute to really get into with it’s tangible vocodered vocals.
