You Desired My Attention But Denied My Affections

‘White Blank Page’ by Mumford & Sons is a dangerous song. Well, dangerous if you’re experiencing a breakup or unrequited love. Mumford & Sons is a folk band from London. But not folk in the typical sense that you would hear today, this band is straight out of the 1800s. It’s magnificent. They even dress the part; tweed pants, suspenders, faded white shirts and bowler hats. Musically, ‘White Blank Page’ is an acoustic affair that explodes into an opus of anguish and suffering. Guitars, airy strings, plucked banjos and delicate pianos create an atmospheric feeling of being in an old Irish countryside. The centerpiece to this musical wonderland is Marcus Mumford’s voice that shakes with brittle pain, whereby you earnestly feel his sadness and distress, aided by the words he sings, ‘Tell me now where was my fault in loving you with my whole heart?’…’You did not think when you sent me to the brink’…’You desired my attention but denied my affections’. And that is why it is dangerous.
