The xx

I wanted to post about The xx ages ago as an album review, but I got too lazy and forgot to post about them all together. Chances are you’ve already listened to them as they’re everybody’s darlings right now. The xx released their self titled debut in August, crafting a sound that is whispy, futuristic, slow churning pop. Vocals are handled by both boy and girl in a quaint, romantic interchange. Singer/guitarist Romy Madley Croft sings with a sensual longing, her utterances responded to by bassist Oliver Sim’s paper thin, disaffected style. Standout track is definitely ‘Heart Skipped A Beat’. They also do an excellent cover of Florence + The Machine’s ‘You’ve Got The Love’, which in turn is a cover of The Source. I’ll be seeing The xx this weekend at the Friendly Fire’s show, as they’re opening for them. The xx will also be touring with Hot Chip for Hot Chip’s upcoming tour.

December 2nd, 2009 atYeah, they were pretty amazing here in Munich too. The only problem was that the guitarist/keyboardist seemed very sad. She missed a couple of notes. A couple of days later I found out she quit…
