LCD Sound System’s Bye Bye Bayou

Monday, October 26, 2009

The last we heard of James Murphy’s LCD Soundsystem was the stunning 2007 release, ‘Sound of Silver’. Now Mr. Murphy comes out with a cover of Suicide’s Alen Vega’s track ‘Bye Bye Bayou’. Very exciting. The sometimes pretentious but always creative Murphy gives us a taste of his upcoming album with this release; which sounds like early LCD Soundsystem with the heavy, drawling vocals. Though slightly dull and repetitive, this is still a solid track that I can’t turn off. Murphy knows how to handle disco beats and does just that with LCD Soundsystem. And this simple cover is no different, with its groove filled bass, soft percussion and space disco sound. I gotta be honest though, I like Vega’s original better. The No Wave, rock style just feels right.
